Celebrating the city's rich multi-cultural heritage, the North Carolina Central University Art Museum focuses on the works of African-American artists over the past few centuries. Complementing the permanent display of 19th- and 20th-century masterpieces are regular temporary exhibits of quality art works. Also on display are contemporary works by local artists and students.

A sprawling venue in the heart of Durham, the amazing North Carolina Museum of Life and Science offers a smorgasbord of edutainment attractions for visitors. Including the Magic Wings Butterfly House, the main exhibits related to prehistoric and modern animals let you experience firsthand the diversity and evolution of the animal kingdom over millennia, while the forces of nature are revealed in the tornado interactive display.
